J.F. de Lavison opět presidentem EDMA
Jean-François de Lavison re-elected as EDMA President
The 28th General Assembly of EDMA, the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association re-appointed Jean-François de Lavison, Mérieux Alliance Vice-President of International Affairs and Public Relations, as its president for the next two-year period. The Association’s Vice-chairs, Jaime Contreras (Abbott EMEA Vice President for Diagnostics Commercial Operations) and Jürgen Schulze (Sysmex Europe Managing Director) as well as EDMA Treasurer, Bennie Ons (BD Director of Regulatory Affairs, Regulatory Compliance & Quality Management) were also confirmed in their positions.
The EDMA General Assembly, held in Brussels on 31 October, also renewed the mandate of Jürgen Schwiezer, appointed next CEO of Roche Diagnostics, as member of the Executive Committee. Finally, Marcel van Kasteel, who has recently left Beckman Coulter, was replaced by colleague Hans Hostettler, President, EMEA, Commercial Operations, representing the Swiss Association SVDI-ASID.
Accepting its new mandate, Jean-François de Lavison affirms that “the Association has today an efficient organisation that responds to clear objectives for the forthcoming years. This is the result of the efforts undertaken by a team that has chosen to work together; constituting a successful example of European cooperation.”
As regards the future, the EDMA President states the commitment “to work together in demonstrating the valuable share of In Vitro Diagnostics in the field of Global Health, in Europe and world-wide”. For this purpose, the cooperation with other industry associations is necessary, “we should – explains de Lavison- continue to develop our excellent relationships with other diagnostics-related organisations in the world and, while keeping our own specificity, build the necessary bridges between the In Vitro testing and the other healthcare sectors such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, imaging, etc., to provide EDMA with an accurate understanding of the healthcare evolution in Europe and world-wide, without ever ignoring the interests of the patients”.
Both JACRI and Advamed, the trade associations representing the IVD sector in Japan and the US, attended the General Assembly of EDMA. In particular, JACRI President, Hisashi Ietsugu (Sysmex Corporation) who presented the Japanese IVD market and the Association’s members, structure and activities to increase public awareness about laboratory testing. Moreover, the European imaging industry, COCIR, was also represented at the meeting.

EDMA, the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association represents National Associations and major companies engaged in the research, development, manufacture or distribution of In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) medical devices in Europe. Through its affiliated National Associations, EDMA represents in total more than 500 companies (or over 700 legal entities) across Europe. The mission of EDMA is to raise awareness of the importance, usefulness and added-value that diagnostic information can provide to healthcare. For this purpose, EDMA cooperates with European institutions, patients groups, trade associations, health professionals and academia to support an appropriate regulatory system, to work towards a realistic economic environment for healthcare in Europe and to be an effective voice in globalisation.
