Lab Tests Online, the non-commercial source of information on laboratory testing, is now available in German. The German society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL) and the Diagnostic industry federation (VDGH) have released today the information portal, www.labtestsonline.de, developed as a result of the agreement signed between the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) and the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association (EDMA) to translate and adapt the content of the successful US website Lab Tests Online to European countries.
Lab Tests Online DE aims at enlightening citizens and physicians about the diverse and advantageous contributions of laboratory medicine to health protection and care, explained VDGH Managing Director Dierk Meyer Lüerßen yesterday at the launching event in Berlin. Only an enlightened patient can manage his own disease and become a partner of the physician, as explained by the leader of the German Federation of Diabetics, Manfred Woelfert.
In addition, the new German information site targets primary care professionals, who are not always aware of the existing diagnosis opportunities and the sector’s regular innovations. “Therefore Lab Tests Online DE is also addressed to physicians, who can now look up test-specific characteristics rapidly”, stressed Professor Dr. Mariam Klouche for the DGKL.
Dr. Diethard Sturm, Deputy Chairman of the German Family Doctor Federation, welcomed the project and stressed that physicians needed an independent source of information to get easy-to-access and reliable advice.
Lab Tests Online offers clear and easy to understand information both about specific laboratory tests and the conditions they are related to. Therefore users can inform themselves about the tests they have been prescribed, the conditions usually related to the assays and how the success of the treatment is evaluated.
In the coming months, three new Lab Tests Online versions, with original material of particular relevance in these countries, will be available in Polish, Italian and Hungarian, as a result of the same AACC - EDMA agreement of cooperation. All sites, as the recently launched in Spanish and German, are developed in close cooperation by the national diagnostics associations affiliated to EDMA and professional users’ societies.
Background:
EDMA, the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association represents National Associations and major companies engaged in the research, development, manufacture or distribution of In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) medical devices in Europe. Through its affiliated National Associations, EDMA represents in total more than 500 companies (or over 700 legal entities) across Europe. The mission of EDMA is to raise awareness of the importance, usefulness and added-value that diagnostic information can provide to healthcare. For this purpose, EDMA cooperates with European institutions, patients groups, trade associations, health professionals and academia to support an appropriate regulatory system, to work towards a realistic economic environment for healthcare in Europe and to be an effective voice in globalisation.
